Updating the firmware of your GT Series soldering station helps ensure your system is operating at peak performance.

To update your system’s firmware, follow these 9 simple steps:

STEP 1: Download the latest firmware .zip for the GT120 or GT90 from the Metcal website.

NOTE: There are two versions of the firmware. Be sure to download the correct version for your GT system: GT120 | GT90

STEP 2: Extract the contents of the .zip file. You will find an instruction document and a folder containing the firmware image (.hex).

STEP 3: Transfer the firmware image to the top folder of an external USB drive.

STEP 4: Power down the GT station via the rear panel power switch.

STEP 5: Plug the external drive into the USB port in the back of the GT station (Figure 1).

STEP 6: Press and hold the “Menu” and “⮠  ”   buttons simultaneously while switching the power switch ON.  Continue to hold the “Menu” and “  ”  buttons for 3 seconds, then release.  The screen should remain dark for about 10 to 15 seconds. The unit will reset once the software is loaded successfully.

NOTE: The display may show a high contrast. Once the EEPROM is reset and the unit power cycled, the display will be reset properly.

STEP 7: Verify the firmware version by observing the startup page. The model and firmware version will be displayed for a few seconds before transitioning to the home status screen.

STEP 8: Clear the system memory settings (Resetting the EEPROM).

    1. Press and hold ▼▲ buttons simultaneously while switching the power switch ON.
    2. When the screen below is displayed (Figure 2), press and release the “Menu” and “⮠  ”   buttons simultaneously.

STEP 9: Power cycle the unit as a final step to restore proper default settings.

That’s it. The firmware upgrade is complete! Your GT Series station will now perform with the latest system upgrades.
